Our founder

1917 - Association of Lions Clubs established.

  1. 1920 -Lions Club International established. 
  2. 1925 -Eradicating Blindness - Helen Keller challenged LIONS to be knights of the blind
  3. 1940 -Libertyville Lions Club sponsors new Grayslake Club, charter is displayed in Grayslake Library.
  4. 1957 -Established LEO Program
  5. 1990 -Launched SightFirst program to restore and prevent blindness on a global scale.

Grayslake Lions Club Officers


In 1917, Melvin Jones, a 38-year-old Chicago business leader, told members of his local business club they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities and the world. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed.
